Bone Joint Res 2015;4:23–8. Received 23 October 2014; Accepted 17 December 2014 Objectives This study tests the biomechanical properties of adjacent locked plate constructs in a femur model using Sawbones. Previous studies have described biomechanical behaviour related to inter-device distances. We hypothesise that a smaller lateral inter-plate distance will result in a biomechanically stronger construct, and that addition of an anterior plate will increase the overall strength of the construct.

Introduction: Close reduction and intra medullary nailing has been established as the treatment for femoral shaft fractures with a non::union:: rate of 0.9-1.1 % though, it is still controversial. Currently, the most accepted method for treatment of non ::union:: is exchange nailing. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate treatment of femoral shaft fractures non ::union:: via 2 methods of e...
متن کاملComparing the Effect of Reamed Exchange Nailing and Augmentation Compression Plating in Treatment of Femoral Shaft Nonunion
Background and purpose: One of the most important complications of bone fractures is nonunion. This research aimed at comparing the effect of exchange nailing and plate augmentation on complications after surgery and the time to achieve desired outcomes. Materials and methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 12 femoral shaft nonunion cases treated operatively in 2011-2018 (...
متن کاملLess invasive stabilisation system plating for distal femoral fractures.
PURPOSE To review the outcome of less invasive stabilisation system (LISS) plating for complex distal femoral fractures. METHODS Records of 6 men and 11 women who underwent LISS plating for complex distal femoral fractures from September 2001 to August 2005 were reviewed. One patient who died 12 months after surgery due to a cardiac problem was excluded. The mean age of the remaining patients...
متن کاملComminuted supracondylar femoral fractures: a biomechanical analysis comparing the stability of medial versus lateral plating in axial loading
The aim of this study was to compare the biomechanical properties of medial and lateral plating of a medially comminuted supracondylar femoral fracture. A supracondylar femoral fracture model comparing two fixation methods was tested cyclically in axial loading. One-centimetre supracondylar gap osteotomies were created in six synthetic femurs approximately 6 cm proximal to the knee joint. There...
متن کاملBiomechanical evaluation of metacarpal fracture fixation: application of a 90° internal fixation model.
PURPOSE Complications in metacarpal fracture treatment increase in proportion to the severity of the initial injury and the invasiveness of the surgical fixation technique. This manuscript evaluates the feasibility of minimizing internal fixation construct size and soft tissue dissection, while preserving the advantages of stable internal fixation in a biomechanical model. We hypothesized that ...
